Last Monday I started the Almost no-Sew Daisy Costume with the leaf shaped sleeve. Today I give you part II: the Petal Collar. Gather your supplies and let’s get to work. Do not make my mistake and misjudge your hot glue stick supply or you will be sewing on our almost no-sew project. Ready?

First, I’m going to reference part I, “On your construction paper, play with a rope until you get the shape of a petal. Hold the rope in place and trace. Cut out your petal pattern.” You’ll need one small pattern (green) and one large pattern (color/white). Place your small petal on the green felt and trace. I made ten small green petals in case I needed extra for mistakes. Cut out petals. Next, place your large petal pattern on your daisy fabric. I chose white for my daisy, but any bright color will do. Once again I made ten petals.

Measure your neck. Cut a length of green felt, 2 inches wide, to fit around your neck. I recommend adding a few inches for comfort. Iron your collar piece and the petals if needed. Lay the collar flat. Arrange the large petals on the collar piece one half inch above the edge, overlapping to add volume, and pinning as you go. Glue the petals to the collar. Be careful not to go overboard on the glue. Once dried, arrange the small green petals along the edge of the collar. The green petals should cover the bottoms of the larger petals. Pin and glue (I sewed because I ran out of glue. Silly me.) The last step is easy. Attach a button, a snap, or some ribbon to secure and close the daisy collar. I used scrap pieces from my sleeve process for a bow.

You collar may be a bit floppy and limp. You can solve this with a little stiffener. I will be attaching invisible thread to the tips of the petals and to each other to keep them up. Once I have the entire costume on I’ll have a better idea how I want the petals to look. Check back Wednesday to see it finished.
