After we were well fed and sated we continued wandering around the Renaissance Faire. The lanes led us down to stages and a midway of renaissance themed games. The first stage featured a Laundry Lass show. I’m not sure what that means, but I think it had some audience participation. On Memorial Day the Laundry Lasses hosted a Wet Tunic contest for men. I like the way the Laundry Lasses think! There were village scenes with smithies and more taverns. There were a lot of ale distributors…not to worry there were softer drinks for the kids. Read about all the performers.

Yesterday we made our way to the castle at the Renaissance Faire. Today, we’ll leave the relative safety of the castle walls. It took a few minutes for our eyes to adjust to the bright outdoors after being inside the dank castle for so long. Even with the sound of the musicians paying, it was an effort to find where the music originated. Did anyone dance?

That Costume Girl Visits the Renaissance Faire

Sunday, I went to the Renaissance Faire with my Mom and Dad. We had a lot of fun wandering around the grounds and seeing the colorful denizens of the faire. You can follow our adventures by clicking through the gallery. Outside the gate was a small ensemble and some dancing girls. What a great way to greet your guests!

We entered into an old street scene. We looked around and saw paths marked with weathered signs pointed in varying directions. We chose the one that said ‘castle.’ The bagpipe was like a siren’s call.

I made it out to the Renaissance Faire. Thanks to my Mom, who noticed I had sewn my sleeve inside out, I was able to finish a quick costume. It did not turn out the way I envisioned, but I can always add to it or change the basic look. Here’s a sneak peek at the fun we had. With me is Cedric of the Bedlam Bards. I see Cedric around at conventions from time to time.

Honoring Memorial Day

In America, we tend to celebrate Memorial day with barbecues and picnics. Sometimes I think we forget why we have a three day weekend. Thank you to all that have served, fought, and died for our country. Thank you ManWithPez for 12 years with the Air Force. Thank you Dad for six years of Navy. Thank you to all my uncles and cousins who have served in the Marines, Army, Air Force, and Navy. Thank you to my readers who have given their lives to military service. Take a moment today to remember family, friends, and strangers who have given their lives in the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard. You made a difference, and we appreciate your sacrifice.

This week on As the Costumes Turn…

I passed Pico de Gallo as I was leaving the gas station by the University. I was very excited and went to grab for my camera only to remember I had taken it inside yesterday. Perhaps I’ll see it again before Harrod leaves town.

This weekend I hope to pay a visit to the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival at the Castle at Muskogee. The drive won’t be too bad but the rain might be troublesome. Once upon a time I had a lovely dress my mother and I had made. It’s was a cream and sage empire gown. So lovely. I made it for Halloween in 2000 when I decided to be Ophelia. Unfortunately, the dress was damaged beyond repair. Does anyone have any ideas for a quick costume?

Oh wait, that’s my job.
