Would You Like a Doll?
Friday, May 15th, 2009 by tcgI’m straying from the costume content for a moment (it’s sort of pop culture related) to encourage my readers to help Lisa Spodak raise money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. She began in 2002 by getting pledges and donations. Her determination has led to a well known and popular fudnraiser of auctioning celebrity autographed Avon Breast Cancer Teddy Bears and pink Everlast Breast Cancer Boxing Gloves. Her current auction features the leads of Fox’s Dollhouse Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett and guest stars Alan Tudyk and Mark Sheppard. The auctions run through May 21, 2009.
From Lisa’s blog: “Okay, it’s a stretch, but you know I always like to have themes for batches of auctions and since the San Francisco Avon Walk is only two months away and I’ve got to get going with my fundraising… this one is Dollhouse themed in an effort to drum up cosmic good karma in hopes of a renewal for Season 2! . . . Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett have both signed bears twice and Alan Tudyk and Mark Sheppard have each signed bears three times! Tahmoh Penikett also signed the Battlestar Galactica boxing glove and Alan Tudyk has signed two gloves at different times for auctioning off. It’s the ongoing generosity and patience of people like this that have made my fundraising efforts so successful (and so much fun!) and I really appreciate it!! “
Perhaps I’ve overstepped my bounds bringing personal causes into a niche blog, but sometimes we’re moved to bend the rules. Like Lisa, breast cancer has attacked my family. I’m proud to say that my aunts and cousin are survivors who continue to fight breast cancer and spread the word about early detection.
