That Costume Girl Visits the Renaissance Faire
Thursday, May 28th, 2009 by tcgSunday, I went to the Renaissance Faire with my Mom and Dad. We had a lot of fun wandering around the grounds and seeing the colorful denizens of the faire. You can follow our adventures by clicking through the gallery. Outside the gate was a small ensemble and some dancing girls. What a great way to greet your guests!
We entered into an old street scene. We looked around and saw paths marked with weathered signs pointed in varying directions. We chose the one that said ‘castle.’
We continued up one of the lanes to a square with children playing and people milling about with turkey legs in their hands. The smell of food and beer was hard to resist, but the bagpiper lured us further down the path towards the castle. He was excellent. Then the rain started. The crowds gathered in a nearby beer hall. We ordered drinks while we waited for the rain to pass. The barmaids were fast and friendly, but they moved too quickly for a clear picture. Look, they have chocolate sauce covered funnel cakes! All of the vendors dressed in costumes befitting their wares: The kilt vendor wore kilts. The falafel vendor wore Middle Eastern themed costumes. The underthings vendor wore pantaloons and lacy corsets.
Onward towards the castle! But let’s stop at Ursula’s Alcove first. The hats were cute and hard to resist, in fact, my dad bought one. He found a two-foot tall hat that will be perfect for his stilt walking in Mardi Gras next year. Costumers and performers are always on the look-out for pieces to add to their collection.
After watching the falconry and perusing a few more shops, we finally entered the castle. It was between tea time and the main meals, so not much was happening. I ran into Cedric of the Bedlam Bards while I was inside the castle. We made a loop and headed back out to see the rest of the faire.

It looks as though you and your family had quite a fun time. I especially enjoyed the photo of your father’s new hat!
