Summer fun, had me a blast.

My parents struggled with finding ways to occupy my summers. They found a theater arts summer camp that ran in two-week sessions. Perfect. No audition was required, so my lack of vocal talent was swept under the rug. I had a blast at Action Arts and attended fro four summers. All participants were responsible for their own costumes. Each child was cast in one song number, one dance number, one short scene, and the opening and closing numbers. That was a lot to a kid. Here are a fw of the pictures I found in my parent’s attic. More summer fun.

Farrah’s Costumes

Yesterday, well this week really, was hard on the entertainment world. We lost three iconic personalities: Ed McMahon, Michael Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett.

Farrah was a bold young woman. She took chances and made risky decisions that sometimes left us scratching our heads but mostly left as wanting more. Her early work highlights her science fiction and costume period. As her career progressed, she opted for everywoman roles and good ol’ gals who wore regular street clothes. I’d like to note a few of her more memorable costumed moments. (more…)

Woo Away

I can’t add much to The Park Bench’s How to Meet and Woo a Nerdy Girl. Tip #2 suggests you look like David Tennant. That would be nice but not necessary. You can look like Christopher Eccleston if you’d prefer. I’m not picky about Doctor look-a-likes. Number 9 supports our collectibles habit. Just last week I received a set of Wonder Woman, The Question, and The Flash action figures. Very sweet. It’s a great list of tips.

Read it and take notes if needed. I’d change tip #8 to say, “You remind me so much of Felicia Day.” Go out and woo your nerd.

Thanks to @bonniegrrl for the tweet.

Friday. Minnesota. Be There.

Prince fans are getting into the Sing-Along spirit this Friday in Minneapolis. First Avenue is hosting a Purple Rain costume contest and movie sing-along. The event starts at 8 PM and is $3 at the door. Patrons are encouraged to dress as their favorite character from the iconic movie. Now’s your chance to wear the ruffled shirt you’ve been saving for a special occasion. Call your girlfriends and be confident as Apollonia 6. It sounds like it will be a fun evening.

I only wanted to see you under the purple rain…

Heroes Con 2009

Heroes Con is one of the best conventions of the year. It always has great guest and great attendees. You should try to fit it in your schedule next year. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend this year. Lucky for us, Kal El of the Heroes Alliance and Wolf Pack Elite did go. He and his wife took several pictures throughout the weekend. Thank you very much.

Valerie Perez made it to Heroes Con this year. I keep attending conventions in the wrong year to meet up with her. This year she was the Scarlet Witch. As always, she looks fantastic. Maybe next year I’ll make it to Charlotte.

I don’t know what super secret news was announced at Heroes Con this year. I’ll have to wait til later in the day when everyone posts there blogs. If you have to know asap, you can find some podcasts from the event if you do a little search.

I hope everyone had a great Fathers Day weekend and a fun time at Heroes Con.

Captain Picard Day

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 by tcg

I can’t believe I almost missed Captain Picard Day!

Many websites list June 16th as Captain Picard Day, stardate 47457.1 from the episode “The Pegasus”. Let the obsessives worry that the date is likely two or three days earlier, all I care about is celebrating the Captain.

Listen to The Picard Song by DarkMateria. Make some Earl Grey, hot, and enjoy a little Shakespeare all while practicing your best Picard maneuver in your new uniform. Perhaps you can even organize an archaeological dig featuring space gadgets and rare alien artifacts. After all, Jean-Luc’s second love is archeology. You can make arts and crafts inspired by the Captain. Don’t forget to watch Patrick Stewart’s alphabet song dedicated to Gene.

I hope you enjoy your Captain Picard Day celebrations and art exhibit.
