Long Tall Texan

My Dad can be talked into doing most anything if Mom is the one doing the talking. It was just a matter of seconds before he agreed to do a stilt show at the Annual Meeting of the Arkansas-Oklahoma Division, Inc of IAAP at the Cherokee Casino Resort. She requested Long, Tall Texan.

The costume consists of custom blue jeans, traditional cowboy shirt, modified extra-long hobby horse, novelty cowboy hat, accessories, and his smile.

Despite having trouble walking on the carpet, Dad made it around the room waving and shooting into the air. The cap rifle misfired a few times, as caps do, but the guests seemed to enjoy the show.

It was a lot of fun. Many of the ladies were giggling and taking pictures. I saw some of the servers and staff pulling out their camera phones to document the man on stilts. People on the casino floor were staring up at the silted cowboy. It’s hard to resist a stilt walker.

Sometimes people wonder why I’m a little weird or why I like dressing up in costumes. Then they meet my parents and it all makes sense.

Fourth of July is serious in my family. This year I have costume plans…the purchase and wear kind. Costume Craze carries the Secret Wishes Sexy Firecracker dress. It’s fun, flirty, and modest enough to wear in front of the parents and the children. I have it and it looks just as cute in person. I’ll take a few sparkler accessorized pictures the first week of July. The fireworks stands will be open soon so we can stock up on the aerials and fountains. I can’t wait!

The Stylish Way to Sleep

Every kid needs superhero pajamas. Every kid. I declare it to be so. I had Wonder Woman underoos and Wonder Woman pajamas. I wore my underoos to school. A lot. My pajamas, which had sleeves and long pants, came in handy for the occasional cold Halloween. I even have the modern adult equivalent. I just can’t help myself.

The next generation is following in our footsteps. Look what this smart, handsome young man chose. The cape makes him move faster. He runs, arms extended, making “woosh” sounds. The cape billows behind him. Super cute. And very necessary for all boys and girls to experience. Get your children some hero pjs. That’s an order.

And maybe pick some up for yourself.

Umbrella Corp is Taken Down

Fans of Resident Evil might get a kick out of this story. Jay, a young RE and zombie fan, went to a zombie crawl in Seattle. He was then detained and questioned by police.

Jay was wearing his black swat style gear from the RE series. An on-looker didn’t know an event was scheduled and believed an armed man was about to commit a crime. Six cars converged on the host shop and found Jay inside. Luckily, the organizers could back up Jay’s claim of no intended harm. Congrats to Jay for winning the costume contest and tickets to Crypticon.

Let this be a lesson to all of you: Even with your orange tipped machine gun, people may be wary of you. Be patient and understanding when people assume the worse.

To my friends at the Wolf Pack Elite, be careful, this could have been you.

Bodysuit Help

I have no experience sewing bodysuits, leotards, or leggings. Bodysuits are tricky due to the stretchiness of the fabric. The best pattern to use is the Kwik-Sew 2108. Check your local stores and ebay because this one is hard to find. Kerry has a basic tutorial over at maskon.com. Another great place to learn about making bodysuits is Stretchy. You’ll find original patterns and lots of tips there. Before you get started, you’ll need a sewing machine that can do zig-zag stitches. It’s a must. Good luck. Remember, if you’re having trouble, dance supply stores carry a variety of bodysuits that may fit your needs.

Part Four?

Yes, indeed. My Dad captured a bit of video when we went to the Renaissance Faire last weekend. He also took a few pictures to add to the gallery. Enjoy!
