Testing 1, 2, 3

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 by tcg

I’ve had internet problems for about a month now. It started around the end of April before the Tim Gunn video news. I now have a temporary solution for more consistent connectivity. With any luck, I’ll have a permanent solution soon. Hopefully you won’t notice more lapses in posting.

Here’s a video to distract you.

Such a Card

Thursday, April 8th, 2010 by tcg

cc_pc_osHave you ever seen those goofy looking people dressed as playing cards? You know, the ones wearing a sandwich board with a cut-out for their face. Or, maybe just a sandwich board and black tights? I don’t much care for them, but they’re super easy to make or buy.

Do you want to be a card but not look like a walking advertisement?

The New and Improved Project Rooftop

Friday, April 2nd, 2010 by tcg

IM_DTLast month, er, February, Project Rooftop came back with big changes and impressive content. As you may recall, Project Rooftop focuses on Superheroes, specifically their costumes and designs.

Dean Trippe began to feel overworked and under appreciated for PR. I spoke with him at Dragon*Con last year and he was exhausted and a bit put off by some of the commentators. I don’t blame him. Hosting contests can be taxing. He had exciting changes in his life and decided to focus on them. Dean and an expanded team are back and better than ever.

I recommend taking a look at Project Rooftop. Their are new designs of favorite characters almost daily now. While the designs are 2D, they may inspire you take your ideas 3D and make new costumes to wear.

Refreshing.

100 Years and Counting

Thursday, March 18th, 2010 by tcg

logoCamp Fire USA has been around for 100 years yesterday. It was founded March 17, 1910. I’m proud to say I was in Cam Fire for 12 years. I learned about the environment, computers, community service, and how to sell candy. It’s a family tradition. Ask any of my aunts about their Council Fire memories or my uncles about having all those boxes of candy in the house…it was torment, heh.whl7

The watch word is WoHeLo. It stands for Work, Health, and Love. For those that don’t know, Camp Fire is a youth organization for boys and girls of all races and creeds. There are no restrictions to membership. There are programs for children as young as 4 and young adults up to 21. All the youth give service to their community. They’ve aided Eleanor Roosevelt and Elvis Presley, just to name a two. While visiting D.C., my group met with Joycelyn Elders for a discourse about teens in America and AIDS. Camp Fire youth make a difference everyday whether it be during the Valentines for Vets campaign, Clean Sweep park programs, or other community projects.whl1s

Young children (formally the well known Bluebirds) earn badges and wear vests. By adolescence (Discovery), they begin to earn beads in lieu of badges. For every ten small beads you can earn one large bead. Each bead color and shape represents a different discipline. Everything from sports and outdoors to technology. They wear tunics/gowns with handmade moccasins. Each year you make another part of your ceremonial uniform: macrame collar and leather collar being the most common additions.whl4s

Horizon club is for teens. Members of Horizon and Teens in Action may work towards the WoHeLo, the highest award. Teens must complete four Reflection pathways before they can begin the three self-selected advocacy programs. One advocacy area is Camp Fire related, one is related to the community or world, and the third is either. Each one requires leading, teaching, serving, and speaking out. The final step is to learn about Camp Fire history. The WoHeLo takes anywhere from 2 to 4 years to complete.

Congratulations, Camp Fire on 100 years of helping our youth become strong and confident members of the community. On Saturday, July 31, 2010, councils across the nation will hold a special event in honor of 100 years.

WoHelo to you.

A Contest for Sports Lovers

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 by tcg

I’m not a huge sports fanatic. In fact, I have no idea who Tony Parker is, but he’s cool in my book for this:

He and his wife Eva Longoria recreated Summer Lovin’ with their friends and a couple mascots. Please note the straight from the closet costumes and the delightfully cheesy wigs.

He encourages all of you to create your own homespun musical numbers for a chance to attend a Spurs game before the 2010 Playoffs. The deadline is January 31, so get filming! Good luck!

Dragon Con Approaches

Thursday, August 27th, 2009 by tcg

Dragon Con 2009 is in one week. That’s right, Labor Day weekend is almost upon us. I won’t be doing daily posts like last year, but you’ll find a recap or two here in the following weeks (maybe not by me). Here’s a commercial just in case you don’t know about Dragon Con.

My biggest gripe with this ad is the treatment of Anthony Daniels. He’s just C3P0? Anthony Daniels is by far the best emcee I have seen at the Masquerade. D*C TV, you should have been nicer to mister Daniels. He deserves a name check.
