Reading Rainbow Tribute

Monday, September 28th, 2009 by tcg

I said I’d make a video in honor of Reading Rainbow. Here it is. I put way more work into it than it looks. In fact, I had to cut the intro I was working on because I just couldn’t get it right. I’ll add it eventually, but for now it’s more important that something is up rather than nothing. Please ignore the color issues. Here are three of my favorite childhood reads:

It was hard to pick just three books. I was way into Nancy Drew and Anne of Green Gables. I think I read Swiss Family Robinson and Paddle to the Sea a few times too. Who knows, once I get this intro finished I might just do more book reviews.

I posted the video of the awesome Bumblebee Transformer costume but forgot to give you links to other Transformer costumes. I’ve had trouble locating adult versions of the Transformer costumes, but here’s an Optimus Prime you can try. It seems most licensed Transformer costumes are for children. I found old-school Bumblebee and movie Bumblebee. In addition, there are old-school Optimus Prime and movie Optimus Prime too. If you do a little searching, I bet you can be a robot in disguise too.

Summer fun, had me a blast.

My parents struggled with finding ways to occupy my summers. They found a theater arts summer camp that ran in two-week sessions. Perfect. No audition was required, so my lack of vocal talent was swept under the rug. I had a blast at Action Arts and attended fro four summers. All participants were responsible for their own costumes. Each child was cast in one song number, one dance number, one short scene, and the opening and closing numbers. That was a lot to a kid. Here are a fw of the pictures I found in my parent’s attic. More summer fun.

The Stylish Way to Sleep

Every kid needs superhero pajamas. Every kid. I declare it to be so. I had Wonder Woman underoos and Wonder Woman pajamas. I wore my underoos to school. A lot. My pajamas, which had sleeves and long pants, came in handy for the occasional cold Halloween. I even have the modern adult equivalent. I just can’t help myself.

The next generation is following in our footsteps. Look what this smart, handsome young man chose. The cape makes him move faster. He runs, arms extended, making “woosh” sounds. The cape billows behind him. Super cute. And very necessary for all boys and girls to experience. Get your children some hero pjs. That’s an order.

And maybe pick some up for yourself.

Hippity Hoppity

I hope everyone is enjoying the Easter and rebirth seasons. It’s the perfect time of year for face painting and little bunnies hopping around the front yard. By bunnies, I mean children with ears not actual bunnies. You can find bunny ears at all your local department and drug stores for less than $5. Ask the Easter Bunny to add a pair to the little one’s baskets. Pick up a $2-3 bunny paint kit (white, pink, & black) or go use your makeup drawer to make little pink noses and black whiskers. After services, send the kiddies into the yard as bunnies. You can even safety pin a cottonball to their belt. Have a wonderful day.

(Don’t forget your Easter Bonnet!)

A few bunny pics.
