Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, or MXC from the Spike channel has gotten a lot of viewing in or home over the years. In fact, ManWithPez has asked several times for a Captain Tenneal costume. Today, we’re going to have a look at some of the costumes from the main cast of this oddly funny, yet reclaimed Japanese gameshow.

You see, MXC started life as a quirky Japanese show (is there any other kind?) called Operation! Takeshi’s Castle. The premise was simple: General Lee (We’re not making that up.) would assemble 100 contestants to go through different challenges to enter the evil Beat Takeshi’s castle. If the contestants got far enough, they would face Takeshi in a challenge at the end of the show. MXC was born when some folks decided to do some creative dubbing. Now, let’s take a look at some of the costumes from this hilarious show. The upside to dressing in a group with these costumes is that you CAN go off by yourself and still be recognized from MXC! Fanatic How To

I’m a soccer fan.

I started playing soccer at the age of 5 after watching my dad play on a rec team with some friends. It looked like a lot of fun**. Luckily for me, I grew up near one of the professional soccer teams of the 80s. Sure, we only won one championship and were known for being one of the dirtiest teams in the league, but as a kid I loved watching my home team.

These days I turn in for the big games. The tournaments, the championships, and of course the World Cup. Like any good sport fan knows, the proper attire for supporting your team is absolutely necessary. Here’s a brief run down of what you can do before flying to South Africa…or the local sports bar. PAX in Boston? Where’s My Blue Sweater?

Thursday, March 25th, 2010 by tcg

ff_2I read Penny Arcade. It’s funny more often than it’s not funny and they have a good attitude about most things in the game/tech/geek/sci-fi genre. I like that. I also like that the men and women of Penny Arcade give back in big ways. They host PAX and PAXEast for the gamers of the world. The LAN guys and the tabletop gurus and the console warriors can hang out in a mostly Klingon and Frodo free environment. Yay! Better than PAX, the Penny Arcade family also started Child’s Play. People can donate games to childrens’ hospitals around the world. What’s better than bringing a smile to a bedridden kid? Nothing! Donate now. Okay, it’s more of a suggestion than an order, but you should consider it. (more…)

Doritos Crash the Superbowl and My Costume Heart

Sunday, February 7th, 2010 by tcg

Did you see it?

Not the game. The commercial.

Doritos was the clear winner in the costumed commercial category in Sunday evening.

Was there anything more awesome than the Doritos Samurai? No. Awesome.

The roller derby. We’ve seen Raquel Welch and Farrah Fawcett in skates. We Fantasy Island bring a roller derby dream to life and we sympathized with Sam when his mother ran away to join a roller derby league. Why are we fascinated with roller derby? I have a theory.

It’s bunnies…wait, wrong theory. The uniforms!

Sculpt a Halo Helmet

The prop builders at Blue Realm Studios have written a detailed how-to for sculpting your very own Master Chief helmet. The intro includes a list of supplies and tools you will need. Their instructions begin with the negative mold of your head and end with painting your new gear. It’s a thorough account filled with pictures. You can modify their steps for other helmets by changing the shapes and colors. For more information about creating Halo costumes check out the 405th.
