I follow NASA on twitter. It’s fascinating and fun. Do you know they post live streaming videos from the space station? You can see the crew prepare for a space walk as it happens. Amazing.
If I were six, I’d fall in love with space all over again…not that I ever fell out of love.
It’s common for children to latch onto a story and base their future careers around it. There are police detectives that grew up with Dragnet. College pre-med and pre-law students that were riveted by E.R. and Law and Order. Or horse breeders who read Black Beauty. It stands to reason a few astronauts were inspired by science fiction.
Japanese astronauts Sōichi Noguchi and Naoko Yamazaki were fans of Space Battleship Yamato. Noguchi has a special shirt in honor of Yamato and the star Susumu Kodai. Noguchi’s shirt echoes the white uniform with a red arrow and red detailing.
Cosplay in space! So cool!
Here’s a short video of Sōichi Noguchi in his uniform tee.
If you were on the international space station what costume would you wear?
ManWithPez has decided to make April Superhero month on his website*. Thursday, he ran down his favorite Superhero costumes. His list includes Spider-Man, Booster Gold, and Wonder Girl. I am considering an addendum to his post.
Last month, er, February, Project Rooftop came back with big changes and impressive content. As you may recall, Project Rooftop focuses on Superheroes, specifically their costumes and designs.
Dean Trippe began to feel overworked and under appreciated for PR. I spoke with him at Dragon*Con last year and he was exhausted and a bit put off by some of the commentators. I don’t blame him. Hosting contests can be taxing. He had exciting changes in his life and decided to focus on them. Dean and an expanded team are back and better than ever.
I recommend taking a look at Project Rooftop. Their are new designs of favorite characters almost daily now. While the designs are 2D, they may inspire you take your ideas 3D and make new costumes to wear.
I read Penny Arcade. It’s funny more often than it’s not funny and they have a good attitude about most things in the game/tech/geek/sci-fi genre. I like that. I also like that the men and women of Penny Arcade give back in big ways. They host PAX and PAXEast for the gamers of the world. The LAN guys and the tabletop gurus and the console warriors can hang out in a mostly Klingon and Frodo free environment. Yay! Better than PAX, the Penny Arcade family also started Child’s Play. People can donate games to childrens’ hospitals around the world. What’s better than bringing a smile to a bedridden kid? Nothing! Donate now. Okay, it’s more of a suggestion than an order, but you should consider it. (more…)
