Costumes Are Not Immune to the Law

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 by tcg

peterpanarrestHoly Taco has put together a photo essay of 25 people arrested in costume. It’s a great reminder that while costumes offer some anonymity, the law can still get you. I recognize several of these events. The Disney characters were protesting a labor dispute. A few street performers, some thieves, and a few more protesters. Perhaps you recall the recent Spider-Man nab?

If you’re in costume and in public be careful: Don’t carry any weapons that look real. Don’t accost passers-by. And don’t yell at the over-worked police officer…that won’t end well.

You can still go out in costume. It’s fun!

The Versatile Patrick Swayze

I never know what to say in a tribute post about an icon. What hasn’t been said? Patrick Swayze had a varied and versatile career. He was great. Even in the crappy things like Steel Dawn, he gave a honest performance that rose above the material.

He ranged from high school rebel to soldier to lover to pedophile to adventurer. There was something all his characters beleived, well most of them, “Some men need to be hit back.” Even though his characters were over-the-top, they seemed real. How do you make an adrenaline junkie robber seem relatable? An actor couldn’t ask for more. He was a Top 10 singer. He was The Sexiest Man Alive. He was married to the woman of his dreams.

I’ve created a little gallery in honor of Patrick Swayze highlighting some of the costumes throughout his career.

Thank you for sharing your gift.

If you’ll do anything for free food, this one’s for you. Chick-fil-A will give a free meal (entree, side, and drink) to any customer dressed from head to hoof as a cow on July 10. If you need a little help putting together an ensemble, the have a cow kit you can download and print. They are also hosting a kids’ photo contest. Don’t forget to wear your cow costume on July 10. You might have a lot of fun.

If you don’t quite have it in you to go full cow, guests sporting cow shirts, scarves, hats, etc may be awarded a free entree.

Farrah’s Costumes

Yesterday, well this week really, was hard on the entertainment world. We lost three iconic personalities: Ed McMahon, Michael Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett.

Farrah was a bold young woman. She took chances and made risky decisions that sometimes left us scratching our heads but mostly left as wanting more. Her early work highlights her science fiction and costume period. As her career progressed, she opted for everywoman roles and good ol’ gals who wore regular street clothes. I’d like to note a few of her more memorable costumed moments. (more…)

Woo Away

I can’t add much to The Park Bench’s How to Meet and Woo a Nerdy Girl. Tip #2 suggests you look like David Tennant. That would be nice but not necessary. You can look like Christopher Eccleston if you’d prefer. I’m not picky about Doctor look-a-likes. Number 9 supports our collectibles habit. Just last week I received a set of Wonder Woman, The Question, and The Flash action figures. Very sweet. It’s a great list of tips.

Read it and take notes if needed. I’d change tip #8 to say, “You remind me so much of Felicia Day.” Go out and woo your nerd.

Thanks to @bonniegrrl for the tweet.
