One More Prize

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 by tcg

Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like there is still one prize to announce for the Halloween Costume Contest. Costume Craze loved all the costumes and wanted to participate in the fun. A group of employees looked through all the pictures and finally decided on the costumes they liked best. There was an intense discussion.

Costume Craze selected the DC Trio as their favorite entry. They gave the Super Heroes a $25 Gift Certificate. Congratulations Batman, Robin, and of course Wonder Woman! I didn’t know they were going to make such a generous offer. Thank you.

On a more personal note, I need to apologize to Action Ranger Timmy. I was unclear when I said, “This costume may be constructed of mostly purchased pieces…” I in no way meant to imply that a purchased costume was somehow inferior to a handmade costume. I meant that a person wishing to duplicate his very awesome look could do so with an Elvis costume or make a jumpsuit themselves. It was very bad wording. Reading it now, I see that my intent does not come across. Dino Elvis, was from the moment I saw it, one of my favorite costumes. It made me laugh. I want a Dino Elvis costume for myself. I’m sorry Timmy.

The Butler Did It

I entered the Evil League of Evil villain contest. I had a long list of evil identities but only had time to develop one movie. I opted for ‘The Butler.’

Catchy, huh?

The Butler : Evil League of Evil Application from ThatWeirdGirl on Vimeo

I wrote and directed the short. ManWithPez is the script doctor and star. There are three costumes in the finished movie: Butler, Socialite, and Detective. We went with the iconic look for all of the roles. The Butler is clad in a classic evening tuxedo with a white bow tie and white gloves. His costume inspiration was Godfrey. Originally cast and shot was a young man playing spoiled trust fund baby. He wore designer trashed jeans and a smug look. The young socialite replacement has on a short cocktail dress with rhinestone accents. The Detective was based on everyone’s favorite redheaded investigator Dana Scully. A trim black suit with a pop of color and a conservative hairstyle.

It was a lot of fun and a lot of work. I’ve never done anything like this and still have a lot to learn on the subject.

I hope you enjoyed the short. Go out and search for other applications. I particularly like The Embezzler, Tur-Mohel, and Vagabond.

Costume Contest!

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 by tcg

Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, I give you the First Annual That Costume Girl Halloween Costume Contest. Whew, that’s a mouthful.

Halloween Contest

Send in your pictures of your Halloween costumes. All costumes are welcome (so long as they’re not obscene). All ages can submit their costume for the contest. There will be four brackets in which to compete.
Child: infant-10 years
Teen: 11-18 years
Adult: 19 and older
Group: 2 or more in themed costumes

The rules are simple: send in a picture of your Halloween costume. Costumes can be hand-crafted or store bought. I do not discriminate. A costume only becomes great when worn by the right person. Picture dimensions should be between 800×600 and 300×225 and in JPEG format. Email the pictures to me@ThatCostumeGirl.com. Include your name or screen name and your age in your email. Feel free to describe your costume, write a tutorial, or tell about your Halloween adventure. All pictures will be added to the Your Pictures Gallery and may be used in a post. The deadline for submissions is November 7, 2008. The winning entries will be announced November 10th right here in a post.

I may ask for opinions from friends and family, but the final selection of the four winners will be mine. Yes, there will be prizes.

Small blog-level prizes, but prizes none-the-less.

I give you fair warning to get your camera out on October 31st. I can’t wait to see what you wear!

Dancing in the Streets

Thursday, May 29th, 2008 by tcg

It’s time I share one of my favorite internet videos with all of you. During holiday shopping in December, I loaded it onto an Apple Store iPod. Teehee.

Costume + Music = Awesome Dancing Fun.

The incredible dancing storm trooper is DannyChoo.com. Isn’t it neat how random folks join in the fun? More people should dress up and dance in the streets…

After all, summer’s here and the time is right. I imagine it would result in an increase of 48 hour commitments, heh. I say go for it! In fact, I’ll give some sort of prize to the best costumed dancer sent in to me@thatcostumegirl.com. The video needs to be of you or have you as the cameraperson. If it is not you dancing, please give the name of the person and proof of their permission.

Need some more Trooper inspiration? Here ya go: With Darth Vader, Looking for Droids, and Caramel Dancer.

Get your cameras and get dancing. A prize is waiting (I’ll think of something). Oh, here’s one more for the road.

Weekend Dreams

A little something for you to think about this weekend:

Cirque Dreams Studios is sponsoring a costume design contest. As the winner you will receive tickets to the Cirque and the excitement of seeing your creation on stage. The current contest is in New York, but is not limited to the Broadway bound audience. Each host city can participate in the event. Some of the past winners are featured on their site. Check their calendar to see if and when they will be stopping in your town. Unfortunately for me, I missed the show and the contest in my area.

Created and directed by Neil Goldberg, CIRQUE DREAMS Jungle Fantasy is an exotic encounter inspired by nature’s unpredictable creations that are brought to life by an international cast of 25 soaring aerialists, spine-bending contortionists, acrobats, jugglers and musicians. You don’t have to be a designer to enjoy the Cirque. I encourage everyone to see a Cirque show at least once in their life. They are incredible shows. The colors are mesmerizing. The movements and flow of the cast are breathtaking. And the feats will amaze you. Kids will thoroughly love the show. Afterwards they may try some of the crazy stunts, so keep an eye on them, heh.
