Congratulations everyone on a fun and fantastic Mardi Gras season. I’ve been playing with mask ideas and techniques for next year. I’ve even learned a little something from the entrants. I’m pleased to announce the two winners of the First Annual That Costume Girl Mardi Gras Mask Contest: adult and youth. I think you all will agree they deserve the recognition. See the beautiful masks.
I hope you are having as much fun as I am making my Mardi Gras mask. On Wednesday, we made mask patterns. On Thursday, those of us using paper-mâché started our layering and drying process. Today, we decorate! Let’s get started decorating.
Yesterday we decided on which mask we each wanted to make. You’ve printed out your template and made any size and shape adjustments*. I’m having fun thinking of all the neat masks I can make. Are you ready to mix up some paper-mâché? Let’s make some masks.
You want to enter the 1st Annual That Costume Girl Mardi Gras Mask Contest, but you’ve never made a mask. No problem. Masks are easy to make and fun for the entire family. Over the next few days, I’ll make a mask with you. My mask will be a paper-mâché mask. You can skip the messy paper-mâché step if you want. Gather your supplies and follow along.
It’s time for another fun filled contest! This time around the theme is Mardi Gras. I want to see your best Masquerade Masks. Get out your purple, green, and gold paint. Pretend you need a stunning mask to wear with your gown or tuxedo to a Mardi Gras Ball. Be creative!
1st Annual That Costume Girl Mardi Gras Mask Contest
Rules:
~Email a picture of you wearing your mask to ThatCostumeGirl@gmail.com.
~Pictures should be no larger than 800 x 800 pixels in JPEG format.
~Entries must be received by February 21, 2009.
~Two winners will be selected on or about Mardi Gras, February 24, 2009.
~Please no professional mask artists. If you are a professional mask maker, you may submit a picture of your work and a link to your store but you will not be eligible for a prize.
Prize packages include a 2009 Cloisonné Endymion medallion.
