Happy Halloween

Friday, October 31st, 2008 by tcg

It’s Halloween! Do you have a costume on yet? I know some of you do, good for you.

I’ve uploaded a few of our favorite costumes to the io9.com Costume Show. Have a look at the great costumes people have made.

I posted Seymour and Dr. Horrible. Additionally, we finally got a good picture of Yorick from Y the Last Man: the costume that was too hot for Dragon Con. I hope you like them.

I’ve received lots of entries for the costume contest. You still have time to send in pictures. Get out the camera tonight and take lots of pictures!

Have fun!

One Down

27-yorick

Yorick from Y the Last Man is assembled. I picked up the missing pieces today. The only thing left to make the costume finished is to try on the poncho.

Yorick’s poncho is styled a particular way within the comic and I’m not positive the one I picked up is the same as Yorick’s. Later today or tomorrow, ManWithPez will try on the poncho for me. We’ll compare it to the comic and see how it matches. With any luck I won’t need to modify it. However, luck is rarely a positive factor for me so I’m betting I’ll need to cut something or other.

Yorick Brown:

White performance gloves, $3
Yellow plaid short sleeve button-up, $10
Blue poncho, $5
Stuffed Capuchin, $10
Gold ring, pack of 50 for $1.25
White long sleeve tee, $5
Gas Mask, years of emotional scarring from military service

11-trio

Total expense: Less than $35

If you are not military, check with your friends and family, someone might own or have access to a gas mask.

The only accessories MWP needs now are a steely secret agent to protect him and a genius scientist capable of saving the world. If any ladies out there are interested in accompanying him one day at Dragon Con let me know.

Side note: There’s talk of a Y the Last Man movie. People always toss around their favorite actors during speculation, but I’ve picked the prefect cast. Zachary Levi as Yorick would be genius. If he’s too tall to sneak around as a woman, how about Sam Oliver. He’s not as strong an actor as Zach but he has the potential. Tracie Thoms is agent 355. There are pages in the book that look like they could have been traced from her picture. She’s incredible. I’m not sure about Dr. Allison Mann, maybe Grace Park? But she’s so young. I should be a casting director.

The Barenaked Ladies were wrong

Everything will NOT be alright when we go shopping.

Oh, how I detest shopping. I know what you’re thinking, but I’ve never been big on shopping and neither is my mother.

My dad was very fortunate.

Anywho, I went out with a list of 9 costume necessities and came back with one thing. I was lucky enough to find some white performance gloves at the local music store. They only had five pairs. None of which were labeled with a size so I was taking a chance that the pair would fit MWP. His Yorick costume is coming along nicely.

What didn’t I find?
Black long sleeve shirt, L
White long sleeve tee, L
Nude/tan girdle thingy, S (Spandex isn’t nice to anyone, no matter how tiny)
Black knee pads
Yellow/black check short sleeve button-down, L
Blue poncho

Play It Again Sports was wiped out of knee pads. A group of Army guys bought all of them. *grumble* Dick’s didn’t have any for less than $25. I can find them online for under $10. It may take more time, but I can be patient when I’m saving money. A blue poncho! You wouldn’t think it would be hard to find. It is.

I forgot to get the XL tee and the duct tape. Sigh. They’re for my body form construction.

Looks like I’ll be doing most of my supply procurement online. Which reminds me, I need a cape.

Props just in!

Two props have arrived.

waffler_gloves

Some nice and cheap black chemical gloves for the Waffler. This one is coming together nicely. The only stumbling block has been identifying all the doodads on Alton’s belt. There’s syrup, a turner, stick of butter, possibly a wisk…it’s hard to get a good look. I also think there’s some waffle-rangs on the left side.

yorick_ampersand

What was the second prop? The cutest little monkey ever! Okay, maybe not so much cute as mischievous. Ampersand. He’s the monkey friend of Yorick Brown. Have you read ‘Y the Last Man’ yet? You should.
